The Adolf W. Schwartz medical stamp collection consists of approximately 700,000 stamps with medical themes. The stamps are cancelled, non-cancelled, commemorative, in postcard form, first-day issue, proofs, tax stamps, tobacco stamps, postal cancellations, and legal tender.

The collection contains black and white portraits of 12 prominent figures in the history of medicine known for their commitment to the art and science of healing.

The collection consists of ephemera that portray women in medicine. Among the images are portraits, comics, fine art, chromolithographs, and advertisements.

The collection includes stamps issued by nations, principalities, protectorates, and other geopolitical entities, as well as organizations such as the United Nations.

Artifical collection of 35mm slides featuring copies of early NIH/hygienic lab, aerial views if NIH campus, NCI building construction, early heart/lung machine, other various campus exterior scenes of people and buildings, various interior labs, etc. circa 1905-1970s and 1987. The 35mm slides appear to have been made in the 1960s-1970s, however many of the subjects covered predate such as images of the Clinical Center construction (1939) and stock images of the U.S. Hygienic Laboratory.

Collection of photographs encompassing various NIH events, facilities, locations, and processes. Includes items formally produced by NIH photographers and informally by staff. Many items were produced for inclusion in publications.

Collection of negatives often accompanied by daily shoot lists with name and dates. Silverman was a NIH staff photographer from 1949-1971, sent on event assignments across campus. Includes individuals, events, and NIAID study group photos.
